			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>So why is it that everytime I am around my Mom I want to eat and its usually not healthy food either!</p>
<p>This year I am lucky enough to get to spend Mother&#8217;s Day, and a few extra days, with my Mom in Minnesota. I am having a wonderful time but I&#8217;ve noticed that I am constantly hungry and craving all my old favorite foods. It was my mother&#8217;s infinite wisdom that suggested that my hunger for food when I am around her comes from my infant days in which she was my only source of food. Makes sense to me. Thanks Mom! Does anyone else agree? Do any of you notice that you get hungrier around your mothers?</p>
<p>I have to admit, I am not being as good as I would have liked to be while I&#8217;m out of town but I am sticking to my good eating habits the majority of the time.</p>
<p>The good news about this is that some of my good habits are rubbing off on my Mom. Here&#8217;s to healthy eating with my Mom and a Happy Mother&#8217;s Day to all mothers out there! To all us kids, beware of the extra need to eat when your around your moms!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This week you get 2 for 1 on the nutrition tips!  Last week&#8217;s tip did not get posted so here it is along with this week&#8217;s.  I know you can handle 2 things at once so this won&#8217;t be a problem!</p>
<p><strong>Tip of the week #2:<br />
</strong>Breaking news!!!  Vegetables and Fruits are carbohydrates too!  This is a big realization for most people and it was to me too at one point.  Usually when we think of carbohydrates we think of breads, pastas, rice and potatoes. We are all right that these are carbohydrates but when we talk about fruits and veggies we put them into a category on their own when they really are in the category of carbohydrates as well.  Now here is the test: If fruits, vegetables, breads, pastas, rice, cereals, grains and potatoes are all carbohydrates then which carbohydrates will give you the most benefit of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber?&#8230;&#8230;..<br />
Answer: Vegetables and Fruits!<br />
All carbohydrates produce a glycemic response in your body but different kinds produce different degrees of this response.  Our goal is to minimize this glycemic response and those carbohydrates that do so, or have a lower glycemic load, are non-starchy vegetables and high fiber fruits.  So when you are choosing carbohydrates at your next meal remember this and make sure to include veggies and fruits into your total carbohydrate intake.  You would be best to replace those &#8220;typical&#8221; carbohydrates with some high fiber fruits and veggies!</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Tip of the Week #3</strong></p>
<p>Water intake is extremely important!  It is getting hotter as we get closer to the summer months so adequate water is crucial.  Divide your weight in half and that is how many ounces of water you should be consuming daily.  That&#8217;s pure clean water!  If you are not at that amount, work up to it slowly adding 8 oz a day until you are consistently getting in the amount you need.  This will help you not be in the bathroom all day <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />   Keep in mind that caffeine and alcohol dehydrate you so add another 8oz  for each drink or coffee.  If you are working out you will also need additional fluids.  Keep these things in mind and be aware of your water intake. </p>
<p>Focus on fruits, veggies and water this week.  So it&#8217;s three things to work on but I still know you can handle it!</p>

The quickest and healthiest way to get in shape! I am a huge fan of CrossFit Scottsdale myself and also have a lot of CrossFit students as clients. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Most people don&#8217;t consider fruits and vegetables to be carbohydrates too.  We usually think of breads, pasta, rice, and grains as carbohydrates and put fruit and vegetables into their own category.  All food can be categorized as protein, carbohydrate, fat or a combination.  Fruits and vegetables are processed by your body as carbohydrates which means that they need to be taken into consideration with your total carbohydrate intake.   Ideally you want to choose most vegetables and some fruit over the breads, pasta, rice and grains to get a higher nutrient density and lower your caloric intake.  Fruits and vegetables naturally have a lot of fiber and a lower glycemic response.  Focus this week on replacing your breads, pasta, rice, cereals, and grains with vegetables and fruits!  I&#8217;m willing to bet you&#8217;ll notice a good difference in how you feel!</p>

<p>Saturday was a beautiful day for many reasons. It was the day of Pat&#8217;s Run, the 4.2 mile race that benefits the Pat Tillman Foundation that is dedicated to supporting future leaders in citizen service. It was also a day for many of us to run in our first ever road race as well as for others to make record times. I have to thank to CrossFit Scottsdale for putting a great team together for a great cause! I was priviledged to be a part of this team and see fellow clients of mine and students of CrossFit Scottsdale push themselves beyond what they thought they could do. Twenty of us ran along side over 13,000 others to support the cause. It was an emotional experience all together. We finished the race on the 42 yard line of Sun Devil Stadium, which had to be one of the most amazing experiences of my life!   For  those of you that don&#8217;t know me, I do not claim to be a runner in the least. My goal was to run the entire time, no walking allowed!  I did and as Angie (a fellow CrossFit Scottsdale student) and I came out of the tunnel into the stadium we found  another gear, turned it up and crossed the finish line feeling like we  could  run for 10 more miles!    Congratulations to Coach Luke, Coach Erica, Chris, Myrna, Liz, Tracey, Angie, Nicole, Jeff, Krystyna, Kristen, Jen, Najla, Inez, Brian, Kristy, Sonja, Steve, and Bryan!  You all are AMAZING and I know that I will see you at the next race!</p>
