Happy Mother’s Day!

So why is it that everytime I am around my Mom I want to eat and its usually not healthy food either!

This year I am lucky enough to get to spend Mother’s Day, and a few extra days, with my Mom in Minnesota. I am having a wonderful time but I’ve noticed that I am constantly hungry and craving all my old favorite foods. It was my mother’s infinite wisdom that suggested that my hunger for food when I am around her comes from my infant days in which she was my only source of food. Makes sense to me. Thanks Mom! Does anyone else agree? Do any of you notice that you get hungrier around your mothers?

I have to admit, I am not being as good as I would have liked to be while I’m out of town but I am sticking to my good eating habits the majority of the time.

The good news about this is that some of my good habits are rubbing off on my Mom. Here’s to healthy eating with my Mom and a Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers out there! To all us kids, beware of the extra need to eat when your around your moms!

Nutrition Tip of the Week #4

Eat well and eat often!

Eat 3 meals and 2 snacks each day. This will help ensure you maintain even blood sugar levels as well as give you sustained energy throughout the day. Controling blood sugar levels is extremely important for long term health benefits as well as weight loss.

Pat Tillman Run

Team CrossFit Scottsdale at Pat's Run 2009

Team CrossFit Scottsdale at Pat's Run 2009

Saturday was a beautiful day for many reasons. It was the day of Pat’s Run, the 4.2 mile race that benefits the Pat Tillman Foundation that is dedicated to supporting future leaders in citizen service. It was also a day for many of us to run in our first ever road race as well as for others to make record times. I have to thank to CrossFit Scottsdale for putting a great team together for a great cause! I was priviledged to be a part of this team and see fellow clients of mine and students of CrossFit Scottsdale push themselves beyond what they thought they could do. Twenty of us ran along side over 13,000 others to support the cause. It was an emotional experience all together. We finished the race on the 42 yard line of Sun Devil Stadium, which had to be one of the most amazing experiences of my life!   For  those of you that don’t know me, I do not claim to be a runner in the least. My goal was to run the entire time, no walking allowed!  I did and as Angie (a fellow CrossFit Scottsdale student) and I came out of the tunnel into the stadium we found  another gear, turned it up and crossed the finish line feeling like we  could  run for 10 more miles!    Congratulations to Coach Luke, Coach Erica, Chris, Myrna, Liz, Tracey, Angie, Nicole, Jeff, Krystyna, Kristen, Jen, Najla, Inez, Brian, Kristy, Sonja, Steve, and Bryan!  You all are AMAZING and I know that I will see you at the next race!

Everything Green!

j04389661So how are you feeling after the green beer on St. Patty’s Day?  Good, bad, ugly?

Well, I want to keep the green theme going but focus on all the green things that make you feel great and do wonders for you body. Your first green eating tip for this series is to eat your veggies first! No matter what meal or snack you are having make sure that you eat the vegetable serving first. This will ensure that you always get to eat your vegetables and it helps you fill up on the good stuff so that you don’t overeat the rest of you food.  What if there are no vegetable servings in your meal or snack? No worries just add some:)

So continue the green theme over from St. Patty’s day! Just make sure those greens are vegetables and not any more beer!
